Farm Advisor
Projects currently underway in the Farm Advisor Program include: · Helping livestock producers stay viable by selling Tuolumne County products through alternative, higher profit markets; · Working with CDF, BLM, the USFS, and the Fire Safe Councils to test cost-effective maintenance of fire-safe conditions after fuel reduction projects or wildfire. Approaches include livestock browsing, mechanical treatments, and prescribed burning; · Exploring integrated vegetation management approaches to reduce erosion and pesticide use in Tuolumne County roadsides; · Working to establish a Resource Conservation District for Tuolumne County. An RCD would vest landowners with oversight of emerging watershed issues, would improve access to conservation programs administered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service; · Protecting the rural character of Tuolumne County by exploring options such as conservation easements, agricultural easements, and alternative development patterns, including residential cluster development in conjunction with conservation or agricultural easements; · Bringing agricultural values and natural resources to the table in city and county decision-making.
